Encouraging the evolution of enterprises towards the digital transformation

In the labour market, there is a gradual change in skills which is becoming increasingly specific and high-profile, so that they are adapted to meet the challenges of digital transformation.

However, current professionals are not sufficient to meet the new requirements of Industry 4.0: as a result, it becomes essential to acquire digital skills and the ability to develop team working in increasingly flexible working environments, technological and dynamic.
Even in traditional sectors, such as wood-furniture, it is necessary to train professionals who know how to combine respect for traditional craftsmanship and the ability to use machines and software of the latest generation, use digital tools and communicate with new media.

In fact, the wood-furniture and furniture sector requires new skills (soft skills) such as digital literacy, curiosity, critical analysis of information, entrepreneurship, networking, agility and adaptability, critical thinking and problem solving.

The current scenario shows a significant training gap between the Education and Vocational Training curricula and the needs arising from the digital transformation of companies.

New scenarios and training perspectives: the Smartrain project

In order to bridge this gap between the provision of training and the current needs of companies, numerous international projects are being developed, including the Smartrain project.

In detail, the project of which COSMOB is a partner, aims to broaden the scenarios and prospects for the development of both European Vocational Education and Training systems, and to indirectly promote the evolution of companies towards industry 4.0.

The main objective is to identify the new skills in line with current and future trends in the furniture and wood sector, among which emerge circular economy, additive manufacturing and smart furniture.
First of all, Smartrain focuses on providing qualified workers in the wood and furniture sector and on developing the skills required by companies.
In addition, there will be the development of innovative training materials accessible to all, in addition to the provision of an e-learning ready for use for students in the wood and furniture sector.

The digital transformation will therefore influence all organizations and their business functions, which will have to equip themselves with highly qualified human capital that knows how to combine soft and digital skills, in order to meet the current needs of companies.
