Underpinning the vital role of the Forest-Based sector in CIrcular Economy
Increasing knowledge, awareness and improve the condition in order to adopt resource efficient processing and recycling in wood-based value chains. These are the main objectives of WoodCircus Project that through the collaboration of an heterogeneous and international set of relevant stakeholders (Italy, Spain, France, Finland, Belgium Slovenia) intends to promote a major competitiveness’s of the European woodworking sector. The aim of the project raised form the awareness that nowadays just one third of waste wood is recycled and there are great differences between the Member States in Wood Recycling performance. In this direction, first of all, the project intends to identify the best practices in side stream and waste management and material recycling in relevant value chain (with a focus on construction wood), and then to disseminate the “best practices” and develop a supporting system for the best performing companies to optimize their achieves. WoodCircus supports the goals of the EIP on Raw Materials for increasing efficiency in the raw material use in Europe and it addresses to Horizon 2020 “Raw materials policy support actions for the circular economy” (Resource efficiency in wood processing, recovery and recycling).
The main results Woodcircus project intends to achieve are:
- Identification, evaluation and dissemination of the best practices in order to create a “Database of Best Practice” and contribute in building the EU knowledge base of primary and secondary raw material;
- Stimulate the competition and support SMEs;
- Promote the efficiency and circularity among all the value chain;
- Elaborate a white Paper with policies recommendations;
- RTDI plan wood industries towards Circular Economy;
- Creation of WoodCircus Network, involving relevant stakeholders across wood construction value chain (Research Institution, Corporates, Policies maker);
- International Workshops promoting wood sector and Circular Economy.
